Pre Mixed Mortar/Plaster - Medium Stuff

How is non hydraulic lime plaster/mortar made?

Our non hydraulic medium stuff lime plaster is made on site using our CHALK LIME PUTTY and a blend of NEWBURY GRIT SAND and WAREHAM WASHED SAND. It is supplied as a ready mix, meaning it is easy to use straight from the bag or tub.  Available in chalk white or oatmeal.

  • Easy to use straight from the tub.
  • Ideal for second coats of internal lime plasters.
  • It can also be used for the final coat if a more textured look is required.
  • Excellent as an exterior lime render or as a mortar for thin joints
  • Available in 25kg bags or 25kg tubs. Or for larger orders, choose a half tonne bag, a tonne bag or a full pallet of 25kg bags.

What is non hydraulic lime?

Non hydraulic lime is lime in its purest form. It sets in contact with air through a process of carbonation. The slow setting process means non hydraulic lime remains softer and more breathable. It is good for internal plasterwork and for use on soft backgrounds such as cob, soft stone or friable material. Adding hair to the mix adds extra tensile strength to the plaster. This is particularly important if you are using it for lath plastering as the plaster doesn't adhere well to the timber once dried. See our LATH AND PLASTERING user guide for more information.

Applying non hydraulic lime

Lime putty plaster has a long shelf life if kept within the airtight containers. However, haired lime putty plaster needs to be used straight away as the alkalinity of the lime attacks the protein in the hair causing it dissolve over a period of time.

It is important that there is no risk of frost when applying non hydraulic lime mortars. Ice crystals forming within the lime mortar will greatly increase the time it will take the carbonisation process to take place. Using HESSIAN as an insulation barrier will protect from frost action and is vital during the winter months.

    just right

Mix it thoroughly and it’s good stuff. Stiff enough to point/spread with and soft enough to shape. Let it dry for a few days to get colour. Wear gloves.

This product was easy to use & being pre-mixed & wet saved a lot of time. Just need the top coat plaster, fine, to finish the job.

Lovely product - easy to use for our builder who had used a lime based plaster before. We repointed an exposed brick feature wall in our bathroom. It looks stunning.

    Lime mortar- ready mixed

Needed two bags to point an old chimney breast, and needed a colour, oatmeal. It arrived on time and was very easy to use straight from the bags. The colour match, actual to Internet, was accurate and the fireplace looks really good. As an amateur, I took my time, found it easy to work with, and got the results I had hoped for. An excellent product

    Great Stuff!

Purchased some of Lime Stuff's Medium Lime Plaster for a restoration of a 140 year old stone cottage where the internal lime plaster on the stone was destroyed by trapped moisture from the use of gypsum skim, anaglypta and gloss paint. Really impressed with the quality of it and its good to get the building breathing again. Will definitely be buying the Fine plaster to finish!

    Lime Mortar

I am a beginner in this repointing business. However, I find that this ready-mixed mortar takes a lot of hassle out of the work. Sometimes I think that the mix is a little too sloppy, but a bit of careful pouring can get rid of the extra water. However, I have also found that having a very 'soft' mortar makes it a lot easier to push right back into the holes in an old wall. Very happy with bthe product, and also with the price. ASll I need now is to develop some more skill!

I was expecting a dry mix, but no problem. Might I suggest you provide a "combo" kit for internal repairs which includes a 15-20Kg of medium plus 5-10Kg of fine stuff.
