How is non hydraulic lime mortar made?

Our non hydraulic medium stuff lime mortar is made at our warehouse using our CHALK LIME PUTTY and a blend of GRIT SAND and WAREHAM WASHED SAND. It is supplied as a ready mix, meaning it is easy to use straight from the bag.  Available in chalk white or oatmeal.

*Please note our Oatmeal mix uses a new blend of sands which is different from our Oatmeal mixes produced prior to 2020. There will therefore be a slight colour variation.

  • Easy to use straight from the bag.
  • Excellent as a mortar for thin joints
  • Available in 25kg bags or 8kg tubs. Or for larger discounted orders, choose a tonne bag or a full pallet of 25kg bags.

What is non hydraulic lime?

Non hydraulic lime is lime in its purest form. It sets in contact with air through a process of carbonation. The slow setting process means non hydraulic lime remains softer and more breathable. This means it is especially suitable for older, softer bricks.

Great product, great service. - It's the third time I have shopped with Lime Stuff. The first time I went to see them and got lots of useful advice. Since then I have ordered on line. The service is excellent. The goods arrive promptly and are always exactly as promised. The 'medium stuff' I order is great for pointing between old Devizes bricks. It's ready mixed, in a bag which is in a bucket. Even as a simple DIYer I have found it easy to use. Great company to deal with. Giles C. 2019-09-17

Great Product - I've used this particular lime putty several times. Used as a render, and also for pointing brickwork. Very versatile, quality lime. Jan B. 2019-09-01

Excellent all round - The guys at Limestuff are incredibly helpful and informative and gave this aged DIY'er the confidence to attempt a ceiling repair myself. The pre-mixed haired medium mortar mix works well, sticking easily to the new and existing laths, and the finish coat of pre-mixed fine plaster blended well with the original ceiling. All-in-all a job made easier by excellent service and excellent products. Clive L 2019-04-09

Applying non hydraulic lime

Lime putty mortar has a long shelf life if kept within the airtight containers. However, if left for a longer period of time, it may have settled and will simply require knocking up.

It is important that there is no risk of frost when applying non hydraulic lime mortars. Ice crystals forming within the lime mortar will greatly increase the time it will take the carbonisation process to take place. Using HESSIAN as an insulation barrier will protect from frost action and is vital during the winter months.
